Some photo sessions are just extra special. This was one of them.
Maddie found me through a model call I shared in a local horse owners group. I hadn’t done a horse and rider session in a while, and I missed it so much. There’s something magical about capturing the bond between a person and their horses. So when Maddie reached out through my website, I was thrilled!
Even though I usually photograph children, I will always say yes to someone who wants to celebrate the deep love they have for their horses. Maddie told me how important it was to show her connection with her animals—and I knew right away this was going to be a beautiful shoot.
We met up at the river in Gilbert, Arizona. It’s one of my favorite spots for horse photography because the light is soft and golden, and the trees and riverbed make such a peaceful background. It’s perfect for showing the beauty of horses and the people who love them.
Maddie said she was a little nervous because she’s not used to being in front of the camera. But you’d never know it. Her joy and love for her horses came through in every smile and gentle touch. Her mini horse, who she’s raised since it was a baby, and her sweet new gelding, were calm and affectionate—just like their person.
Watching them together as the Arizona sun dipped low in the sky was such a treat. The way the horses nuzzled each other and leaned in toward Maddie said everything. They trust her, and they love her. And honestly, that kind of connection is what makes being a horse and western photographer in Gilbert, Arizona so rewarding.
Maddie’s session reminded me why I love photographing these moments. Her laughter, the way she looked at her horses, and the peacefulness of the setting all came together in the most magical way. She’s truly a beautiful soul, and I feel lucky to have captured this special part of her story.
If you’ve been thinking about booking your own horse and rider session in Arizona, I would love to help you tell your story too. These sessions are all about connection, joy, and the love between you and your horses.
Let’s make something beautiful together. 🐴✨
